Like every August, one of the most anticipated weather events of the year arrives: the "Perseids". This star shower extends between July the 16th and August the 24rd, although the most intense days will be the 11, 12 and 13 of August when we will be able to see around 100 meteors per hour.
This phenomenon is also known as "tears of San Lorenzo" since August 10th corresponds to the day of this saint. The name accompanies the legend that explains that these shooting stars are the tears that this saint cried when he was burned on the grill.
Star showers are created when small fragments or particles of comet dust come in contact with our atmosphere at speeds that can reach and exceed 200,000 km / h. The friction they suffer at that moment causes these pieces to catch fire and leave a luminous trail in the sky for a few seconds.
In summer we can see this phenomenon more often as it is the moment when the Earth crosses the orbit of the comet Swift-Tuttle who leaves a lot of dust behind.
The mountains of Andorra are the ideal place to observe and enjoy the Perseids, since the level of light pollution is minimal. Wear warm clothes and join us for some of the nightly excursions that we propose at the reception of our hotel until arriving at the perfect place to stand and observe the sky. This activity, adapted to all types of people and ages, will not only be the chance to attend the see the "tears of St. Lawrence" this year, but also the opportunity to learn to locate the different constellations of our Galaxy with the help of a celestial map.
The stars, the sound of crickets, nature and you ... will you miss it?
