In 2007, the classic layout of the Avet slope (located in the Soldeu sector of Grandvalira) was approved by the FIS for the holding of official calendar events. In 2008, it began to host different alpine skiing events, first of it of the Cup of Europe and then of the World Cup. A trajectory that has served Grandvalira and Andorra to demonstrate their ability to organize and host large-scale international events.
During the World Cup Finals, it will be the stage for the tests of Eslalom (SL) and Giant Slalom (SG) on March 16th and 17th starting at 9 o'clock in the morning. It is located at only 500 meters from the hotel and you could even see the race from the room! To be able to host these tests with all the guarantees, the foot of the track has been modified, creating a large platform of 16,000 m2 that flies over the Valira River. This work has served to improve the conditions of the layout at a competitive level and to link the track with the town of Soldeu.
In 2012, after her participation in the 2012 World Cup, the German Maria Hölf-Riesch (the former World Cup champion of the 2010-11 season) said that the Avet track was the best giant track that existed in the circuit. So with these antecedents, enjoyment and excitement are assured during the Finals of the World Cup.
The Àliga track (located in the El Tarter sector), will house the speed disciplines, with the descent (DH) and Supergiant (SG) tests on March 13th and 14th. This track, where skiers can reach speeds up to 120 km/h, is also approved by the FIS and has been the scene of important competitions such as the World Cup and combined alpine events in 2016.
