In recent years, mountain skiing (also known as ski touring, "rando" or "skimo") has been gaining popularity among sports and nature lovers.
Halfway between mountaineering and skiing, this sport, which originates in the Alps, aims to ascend and descend snow-capped peaks or to cross valleys covered in snow, either by natural paths on the mountain or by unmarked treks. It needs a good physical condition (especially for the ascents) and a good level of skiing in all types of snow (since in many occasions it will be necessary to descend down slopes on powder snow).
The national mountain ski circuit 2018/2019, will have 9 scoring events on the following dates:
9/12 - Nocturnal Class of the Pas de la Casa
12/24 - Night Grandvalira Crossover (vertical) in Soldeu
12/31 - 3 MoraBanc Dynafit Fronts (vertical) in the Pas de la Casa
26-27 / 01 - Font Blanca. Test scoring also in the World Cup mountain ski circuit. The next day, vertical. You can consult more details about this event here.
23-24 / 02 - Skimo 2 for cadets and juniors, and Skimo 4 for juniors and veterans. For more information about this event, you have the details available here.
30/03 - Crossing Ransol - La Serrera
03/31 - ECOA Skimo race Arcalís
If you like mountain skiing and have the opportunity to see some of these races, you will understand why this modality simply "hooks". We especially recommend you to attend the Font Blanca at the end of January, since the level of participants (skiers of the World Cup circuit) makes it one of the most special circuit events of the Andorra Ski Cup.
