You have surely come to Andorra to have a great time looking for the best summer and mountain activities. But there is more! Book a day to learn a little more about the culture of this great little country and discover a lot of places, some of which you can only visit in summer since the rest of the year are closed. Keep reading and do not miss the one-day route we have prepared for you
Start the day with a good mealtime. In our free buffet you can make your breakfast to measure. From eggs with bacon, to some cereals with milk (we have a good selection of these two foods). If you prefer to have a more healthy breakfast you will also find fresh and cut fruit, juice or smoothies. And if one day you want to treat yourself, we offer you several sweets made by our pastry team.
After the most important meal of the day, you will be ready to take the car and set course for this itinerary.
First stop: Meritxell’s sanctuary
It is located in a picturesque village with the same name and it is a must, to visit the abode of the patron saint of Andorra: Our Lady of Meritxell, one of the architectural gems of the country and the largest church. The project was set up by the architect Ricardo Bofill, who begun the construction after a fire destroyed the original Romanesque church, in 1972. Next to the sanctuary, you can also visit the reconstruction of this small church, which took place in 1994.
Do not miss the natural environment that surrounds the sanctuary. You will love it! Take the opportunity to stretch your legs and get to Prats, a short excursion of about 30 minutes on an easy mountain trek. You will arrive at the small church of Sant Miquel de Prats and along the way you will find the famous cross of the seven arms, among others.
Pit stop to eat
Immerse yourself fully in the culture of the Principality and have lunch in an authentic Andorran Borda. Delight yourself with grilled meat and typical dishes and do not miss the opportunity to taste the high altitude wine produced in the country.
Second visit: Columba space, church and Santa Coloma’s old town
Then head to Andorra la Vella, to wander through the old town of Santa Coloma and learn a little more about traditional architecture. Visit the pre-Romanesque church, one of the oldest and the few there is with a circular bell tower in the Pyrenees. Inside you will find an original baroque altarpiece and a spectacular recreation via maping of the original murals.
And to finish, visit the Columba space. In addition to a collection of liturgical objects from other churches in the country, you will see the original paintings of Santa Coloma’s church, which have been returned to Andorra recently, after years of effort by the Andorran Government to recover them.
Do you want to discover its history? It is worth it.
Remember that from the hotel we can manage your reservation and purchase of tickets.
When you finish in Santa Coloma, you can make a stop in the centre of Andorra de la Vella to have a drink in a terrace of the historical centre or visit the historical set of Les Bons, in Encamp, in your way back to the hotel. From there you will have incredible views and you will enjoy visiting one of the most rare medieval monuments of the country. Its tower of defence is the only proof of the internal wars that Andorra experienced in its foundation.
Duo massage as icing on the cake
When you arrive at the hotel, take a break with your partner and enjoy a relaxing duo massage. Then, end this day by having dinner at the hotel and seeing how the sun sets from the panoramic restaurant.
This is our proposal of day of cultural visits, but there are many more Romanesque churches and monuments that are waiting for you in Andorra.
What are you waiting to come and meet them all? Do not hesitate and make your reservation here.
