All year long, around the world, different events planned by the FIS –International Ski Federation- take place to determine who the best skier of the world is. On February 27th and 28th 2016, two of the most intense events of the cup will take place on Grandvalira slopes, with important skiers but also missing other ones
The Audi FIS Ski World Cup will present at the end of the month on the Tarter sector of Grandvalira two of its most emblematic trials: the Super G and the alpine combined. The first one is a speed contest where skiers can exceed 120km/hour, and takes place in well adapted slopes with no obstacles. On the other hand, the alpine combined is a trial where skiers have to do the Super G first then a slalom trial. The alpine combined, even if it’s considered as a single trial, it takes place in two parts, and the winner is the one who has the best timing combining the two parts results. The combined is one of the hardest and less attended trials, because skiers must be specialized in a single discipline.
To Foster the Audi FIS Ski World Cup, Grandvalira has got to close the Aliga slope to be able to adapt it to the event. For the Super G, a section of 2’7km and 60 m width has been carefully prepared for the occasion. The size of Àliga SG ‘s slope combined with the 600m of height difference will help skiers to reach dizzying speeds on February 27th. On the other hand, and by FIS petition, the end of the slope has been renewed and modified to Foster the slalom trial, and has been renamed as Aliga SL.
Big names and big absence
In this edition of the women alpine ski World Cup which we will be able to enjoy in Andorra, great skiers like the Swiss Lara GUT or the Swedish Frida HANSDOTTER will compete. But the name which is son everyone’s lips is Lindsey VONN, considered as the most successful American woman on the United States ski history (but it will not be long before she became the world one). She is the skier with the most trials won on the world’s cup and she heads up the world’s classification. On the other hand, an absence very important will get noticed on this edition, since her knee injury, the Austrian Anna FENNINGER, winner of the last World Cup on the Super G and alpine combined categories, has got to retire of the race this year.
Once again, the Hotel Piolets Park & Spa, will have the pleasure to foster the Race office of the event giving logistic and organization support to it.
Slopes, trials, skiers... All this elements guarantee an intense and emotion full competition at which we will be focused on February 27th and 28th 2016 in Andorra.
