This year the dates marked on the calendar of astronomy fans are the 10th, 12th and the 14th of August, a couple days during which we will enjoy the famous Tears of St. Lawrence. A very special meteors
Every year in August, we have the opportunity to see one of the most special astronomical phenomena: the meteor showers. This phenomenon is due to meteors that approach the Earth's atmosphere and create a halo of light before vanishing.
The most anticipated are known as Perseids by its position in the radiant of Perseus, or as Tears of St. Lawrence. This last nickname is because of Middle Ages beliefs: the meteor shower was compared to the tears of St. Lawrence when he was burnt at the stake.
The first time that the Humanity was aware of the existence of this meteor shower was in 36 A.D., although it was not proved that it was an annual phenomenon until 1835.
