December 3 is the start of the new ski season in Grandvalira, with all sectors, facilities, restaurants and ski schools scheduled to open (weather permitting). In addition, top-level competitions on the slopes near the hotel are also back.
If everything remains as it is now, we could be back to experiencing a ski season like we used to before the pandemic.
This season Grandvalira will once again host a major skiing event
From 14 to 20 March, the "Avet" (Soldeu) and "Àliga" (El Tarter) World Cup slopes will host the men's and women's Alpine skiing European Cup finals. In fact, since last October, these slopes have already begun to be conditioned. The men's giant and slalom will take place on 15 and 16 March, and the same events for the women will be held on 19 and 20 March.
The World Cup finals will also be held in Andorra.
In the 2022-23 season, Grandvalira will once again host the Alpine skiing World Cup finals in the men's and women's events. It will be the second time in history that the Andorran resort has hosted such an event. The first and only time it hosted a final was in 2019, with excellent feedback from athletes, teams, FIS members and the public.
Candidature for the 2027 World Championships
On the other hand, Grandvalira has presented its application to host the Alpine skiing world championships, the most important snow event after the Olympic Games. It is up against the resorts of Grans Montana in Switzerland, Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany and Narvik in Norway. At the end of May next year, the members of the FIS (international ski federation) will choose the winner, so let's keep our fingers crossed that our favourite resort wins! 😉
The final of the fastest race is back: the kilometre throwdown!
As usual, the Riberal track in the Grau-Roig sector will host the world finals of the fast kilometre run from 31 March to 2 April 2022. It is one of those events in the world of snow that you have to see at least once in your life because of its spectacular nature. Take advantage of the fact that in Andorra you can attend and enjoy it in first person!
Preventive measures are still in place this year.
Take note that this year it will still be necessary to cover your face with a mask or buff-type scarf on the ski lifts, waiting areas and boarding areas. It will not be compulsory when descending, but it is recommended. On the other hand, in all enclosed areas, masks will continue to be compulsory. The limited capacity to guarantee the safety distance of 1.5 metres will be maintained in enclosed areas (in accordance with Andorran Government regulations). The use of disinfectant gel at the entrance to enclosed spaces will also be compulsory. Finally, the cleaning and disinfection service for common areas will be reinforced. You can consult all the hygiene and prevention rules here.
Park Piolets Mountain Hotel & Spa will open its doors from 1st December. We look forward to welcoming you with the same enthusiasm as in recent years and with a great desire to enjoy the snow.
