The World Tourism Day will soon take place and we are especially excited about it, as it is the day of our sector. From a few years ago, the central axis that we are demanding is sustainability in order to move towards a more responsible and quality tourism model. It is a close call for us as we are also committed to the environment.
27 of september: World Tourism Day
To give you an idea, the World Tourism Day was established in 1980, so this year it will celebrate its 40th anniversary. It was the World Tourism Organization that chose this day to commemorate the anniversary of the signing of its statutes. Tourism has a special world date as it is a very important economic sector on which many geographical areas depend and which employs an estimated 1 in 10 people worldwide. The activity has grown so much that it is estimated that it currently moves more than 1.3 billion travellers around the world. For this reason, in recent years, the central theme of the celebration has been sustainability in order to achieve a new model of quality, responsible and sustainable tourism.
These values are also what move us and that is why we have made improvements along these lines.
Actions to preserve the environment
In the hotel reforms we have carried out over the last four years we have implemented policies to preserve the environment.
On the one hand we are more efficient energetically, thanks to new insulation and waterproofing that allows us to retain heat and avoid losses of hot water and heating.
We now use new energies and systems that are cleaner: we replaced diesel oil with ecothermia and have installed a new water filtration system based on magnesium salts in the spa.
We also have two electric vehicle charging stations.
To reduce waste, we use kilometre 0 and local water which we filter just before serving, we buy fresh and seasonal bulk products and we give priority to local and nearby producers. We also follow the guidelines of the Andorran government's national waste plan.
As you can see, we are motivated by caring for our environment and our mountains.
World Tourism Day in front of the COVID
This year things are different because of the COVID-19 pandemic which sets new challenges for the tourism industry and forces us to integrate new actions into our daily lives. In anticipation of reopening for the new winter season 2020-21, we have already implemented the plan for new hygiene and safety measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
And how are you going to celebrate the day of tourism? If you don't have immediate plans, we give you some ideas to start the new ski season in Andorra. Check our offers of hotel with skiing and set a date for your next trip 😉.
