The celebration of World Snow Day aims to spread the practice of skiing and to promote activities and other snow sports, in contact with nature.
A firm commitment from the FIS, which Grandvalira, like many other ski resorts in the world, did not want to miss out on.
World Snow Day is celebrated globally in the main ski resorts around the world, with a schedule of special activities. But, do you know why this day is celebrated? Please keep reading!
Why a World Snow Day
The main objective of the FIS (International Ski Federation) is for skiing and snowboarding to become leading sports and leisure activities in winter. To achieve this goal, with the celebration of World Snow Day, they want to bring sports and snow activities closer to the little ones so they can try them and have a fun day.
Another important reason for the celebration of World Snow Day is to promote children’s awareness of the environment. On this day they seek to make them understand that, if they grow up taking care of the environment, both they and their children will also have snow to play in in the future.
The health benefits of snow sports could not be left out either. In addition, snow sports and activities offer a great advantage over many other sports with the "wowt" factor that the natural environment provides.
Finally, this recreational day emphasizes safety in snow activities, proposing a code of conduct on the slopes composed of 10 rules that every skier or snowboarder should follow. Throughout the day, the stations will teach children and their families how to behave and be safe in the snow.
World Snow Day in Grandvalira
Surely you already know that Grandvalira is hosting the Finals of the FIS World Cup from March 11th to 17th 2019? For this reason, Grandvalira will link the World Snow Day activities to the World Cup Finals and will prepare a parallel slalom race and a miniboarder / ski cross in its programme on January 20th (both races will be simultaneous in the same slope area).
In addition, there will be the inauguration of "Yokai", the new circuit for children in the Soldeu sector, and you will enjoy animations with the characters Puk, Bababoom & Co., as well as ski school workshops in the children’s area of the Ski School. If a group of children have good enough skills on skis, a resort instructor will accompany them to discover some of the most interesting parts of the World Cup, such as the jumps or the start and finish areas.
And of course, all participants will be invited to have hot chocolate for breakfast Mmmmmm ....
Next January 20th, come and celebrate the World Snow Day with us. Book your room now and enjoy all the facilities at the foot of the slopes of Grandvalira.
