In Europe there is a new sport that is gaining more followers and is spreading more and more: the Skyrunning. This type of race, which was born in Italy, is based on running on the mountain in high altitude routes with steep slopes and difficult climbs and ascents. A challenge for mountain lovers, who must be physically prepared to face these tests.
On July 25 and 26, Andorra will host one of the most important skyrunning contests of the moment: the Skyrace Comapedrosa. This race, registered in the framework of the world championship, will once again bring together the best runners on the planet in our country.
This 21km race will have 2300m of positive height difference divided into several sections. The first will be a stretch of asphalt road that reaches the Coll de les Cases, located at 1958m altitude. After this point, the runners will have to follow a steep section with little vegetation until arriving at Pic de les Fonts (at 2748m). Then, the runners will begin to descend until arriving at the small borda located in the Pla de l'Estany. At this moment, the runners will face the high point of the race: 2km away with more than 1000m of altitude that will make them reach the summit of Comapedrosa, the highest peak in Andorra. Finally they will have to return to Arinsal through the Estany Negre.
In addition, for those who don't dedicate themselves professionally to skyrunning, they can participate in a reduced version of this race: the Skyrace Arinsal.
