Home Events in Andorra Alpine Skiing World Cup Finals

Grandvalira will host the men's and women's Alpine Ski World Cup Finals in 2023. The Andorran resort has triumphed in the voting over other candidates with more experience, such as Norway's Hafjell and Kvitfjell and Switzerland's Lenzerheide.

The World Cup Finals is one of the most important international alpine skiing events, alongside the Winter Olympic Games and the Alpine World Ski Championships. Andorra previously staged the World Cup Finals from 11 to 17 March 2019 on the Avet and Àliga pistes, which are now accustomed to hosting major events. These slopes hosted the men's and women's European Cup Finals in 2018, as well as the women's World Cup races on the Avet piste in 2012 and the SG and SL categories on the Àliga piste in 2016. And the best part, the two iconic slopes are easily visible from the rooms of Park Piolets MountainHotel & Spa: the legendary Avet piste (Grandvalira – Soldeu) and the extraordinary Àliga piste (Grandvalira – El Tarter).

Park Piolets MountainHotel & Spa was one of the official partners of the Alpine Ski World Cup Finals in 2019. As on previous occasions, the Sala Font Argent hosted the Race Office for the event and became the nerve centre for the strategic decisions that were taken during the course of the competition. We also had the pleasure of hosting the Race Captain and accommodating FIS members in our rooms.

The Avet piste

In 2007, the classic route of the Avet piste (located in the Soldeu sector of Grandvalira), was approved by the FIS to hold events on the official calendar. From 2008 it began welcoming various alpine skiing events, first came the European Cup and then the World Cup. A track record that has enabled Grandvalira and Andorra to demonstrate their ability to organise and host large-scale international events.

The Àliga piste (located in the El Tarter sector) will be the venue for the speed disciplines, with the downhill (DH) and Supergiant (SG) events scheduled for 13 and 14 March. This piste, which enables skiing at speeds of up to 120 km/h, is also approved by the FIS and has been the setting for major competitions such as the World Cup and alpine combined events in 2016.

The two slopes on which the competition will take place can clearly be seen on either side of the hotel. In 2019, our conference room hosted the Race Office, the nerve centre for all decisions made during the course of the competition. FIS members also stayed in our rooms and enjoyed our hospitality during the event.
