You will find treks adapted to all levels and from different times. But there are three very special ones in which you can reach the highest peaks of Andorra, touching the 3000 meters of altitude.
So have a good breakfast and get ready with the necessary start of the climb!
The Comapedrosa: the roof of Andorra
Located in La Massana, its 2,942 meters make it the highest peak in the country. To hike this mountain requires a good physical condition, since it is classified as difficult, due to its steep slopes. It will take you approximately 8 hours to reach the top, following a 9,3 miles trek with an unevenness of 1372 meters. The excursion begins at Prats Sobirans, a forest way located in the village of Arinsal that follows the GR11. You will go through the natural park of Valls del Comapedrosa, a protected area of 1543 hectares, where you will cross forests, clearings and a stream. You will discover the native fauna and flora and share the typical architectural heritage of the country such as the huts, huts and dry stone walls. When you reach the roof of Andorra, you will have he impression of touching the sky with your hands.
The effort will have been worth it just to be able to see a part of the Pyrenees from a bird's eye view and live a moment of peace just for you.
Estanyó: the highest mountain in Ordino
This route begins in the Natural Park of the Sorteny Valley, after the last village of Ordino, El Serrat, before Arcalís ski slopes of. To reach the top, at 2,915 meters high, you will have to walk about 4 hours, following a 7,5 km trek with 1115 m unevenness. It is also cnsidered as a very difficult route due to its steep slopes.
First you will easy walk through the forest following the river to an area of pastures and you will find a viewpoint from where you can see the native birds of the area. Then, you will reach the Estanyó Lake, the perfect place to stop and take some photos of the landscape. Before ascending to the summit, you will pass through a steep mountain range to finally enjoy exceptional views over almost all the other peaks of Andorra.
La Serrera: the third highest peak in the country
Although the peak is also located in Ordino, we suggest you to start the trek from Ransol (Canillo), a few minutes from the hotel. In the initial part of this way you will follow some stretches that were heavily traveled in the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries, when iron mines were active.
The ascent begins in the Meners River, after the village, where you will continue until you cross it and leave it behind heading to the lake dels Meners de la Coma. Then you will cross a ridge to the dels Meners pass, where you will find one of the most important iron deposits in the country. At the top of the hill, adjoining France, you will see the entire Ransol Valley, the Sorteny Valley and even Comapedrosa itself. This route is also difficult but the route and the views are worth it.
Even if you do some of these excursions in summer, our recommendation is that you take a good equipment to go to the mountains (footwear, warm clothes, water, snack, walking sticks, enough mobile battery ...), and that you download the App Alpify if you still do not have it on your mobile (a simple and free app that can save your life on the mountain).
We remind you that the ascent to these three peaks requires a good level of physical level and that they are not suitable for young children (due to their unevenness and characteristics of the route). So, if you see that these proposals are too hard for you, check with us. We will find other proposals to make you enjoy a day of hiking adapted to your level.
And after touring peaks and mountains, sleep comfortably in one of our spacious rooms and take advantage of a relaxing massage before dinner.
